Customer Experience Templates Workflow
There is no single right way to organize your features. You can keep one feature per customer experience template, or combine several features into one. Both produce the same result on the storefront; the difference is how you manage them. This article shows both, using Pre-Order plus Notify Me as the example.
The two building blocks
- A customer experience template can hold one feature or several.
- A single variant can have more than one customer experience template attached; they layer and combine.
When Pre-Order and Notify Me are both active on the same variant, both stay active and their buttons stack one underneath the other on the storefront, so the shopper can either pre-order or sign up to be notified.
Method A — separate templates, attached together
Keep each feature in its own customer experience template and attach both to the product.
- Create a customer experience template with the Pre-Order feature and configure it.

- Create a second customer experience template with the Notify Me feature and configure it.

- From the Products section, attach both customer experience templates to the same product.

The variant now shows both buttons stacked one underneath the other.

Method B — one combined template
Put both features in a single customer experience template and attach just that one.
- Create a customer experience template. (Customer Experience Templates Workflow)
- On the Features tab, add both the Pre-Order feature and the Notify Me feature.

- From the Products section, attach this single customer experience template to the product.

Same storefront result, the two buttons stacked one underneath the other, managed as one template.

Which one to choose
- Separate templates are best when you want to reuse each feature independently across different products, mix and match, or change one feature without touching the other.
- A combined template is best when the same set of features always go together and you want one thing to attach and maintain.
Keep in mind that some features cannot be combined in the same template; for example Pre-Order and Coming Soon are mutually exclusive.
