Hide Sold Out

Hide Sold Out takes products off your storefront once every tracked variant has sold out, and brings them back on their own when stock returns.

What it does

When all of a product's tracked variants reach zero, Timesact hides the product. When stock comes back, Timesact shows it again. You set it up once and it runs across your whole store.

It sits in the Storewide category, alongside Purchase, Notification, Availability and Urgency. It is the only functionality that works on every product at once.

How it is different from everything else

This is the part worth reading twice. Hide Sold Out applies to every product in your store. It does not use the products, markets or locations you set on the customer experience template it lives in, those settings govern the other functionality in that template, not this one.

So there is nothing to attach. You turn it on, and it watches the whole catalogue.

Before you start

Hide Sold Out comes with the add-on. If you have not added it yet, open Billing & Account, add the add-on, then come back and turn Hide Sold Out on.

Setting it up

  1. Open Experiences and open or create a customer experience template.
  2. On Functionality, add Hide Sold Out.
  3. Choose a Hide type, which decides how products are hidden:
  • Draft product — moves fully sold-out products to Draft in Shopify, which takes them off every sales channel.
  • Hide from Online Store — leaves the product active in Shopify and removes it only from your Online Store sales channel, so it stays available on your other channels.
  1. Optionally set an Exclusion tag. Products carrying that Shopify tag stay visible, and any Timesact had already hidden are restored.
  2. Turn it on. Timesact asks you to confirm, because the change applies to your whole store.

Which hide type to pick depends on how you sell. If a sold-out product should disappear everywhere, including Shop and POS, use Draft product. If you only want it gone from your website, use Hide from Online Store.

Turning it off

Switching Hide Sold Out off un-hides every product Timesact hid. That runs in the background, so give it a moment to work through your catalogue.

The report

Hide Sold Out keeps its own report of what it has done, which you reach from Analytics, under Sold-out products, by opening Overview. Each row is a variant, and the columns are Product and variant, Stock status, Quantity, Inventory policy, Tracked, First observed, Alert, and Reason.

The report is scoped to the customer experience template you are looking at, and stays empty until Timesact records a sold-out variant for it.

Reason is the column to read when something did not happen the way you expected:

  • Hidden as draft, or Hidden from Online Store — done, using the hide type you chose.
  • Skipped: active in another customer experience template — the product is in use elsewhere, so it was left alone.
  • Skipped: Back in Stock is enabled across your store — you are collecting sign-ups on sold-out products, and hiding them would take the sign-up form away.
  • Skipped: Online Store publication was not found — Timesact could not find the Online Store channel to remove the product from.
  • Skipped: product has the exclusion tag — working as intended.
  • Manual visibility change detected — someone changed the product's visibility by hand, so Timesact stopped managing it.
  • Shopify visibility update failed — the change did not go through. Check that product's visibility in Shopify, and get in touch if it keeps happening.

Alerts

Hide Sold Out can tell you when a variant sells out, by email or in Slack. The Alerts button sits in the top right of the report.
