Timesact's Tag Automation X Shopify Flow
Introduction to Timesact Tag Automation
Tag Automation allows you to automatically apply Timesact features such as Pre-order or Back In Stock using Shopify product tags.
For a complete overview of Tag Automation, including where to find it, how to create tags, and how to apply them to products, see:
The sections below focus on how Tag Automation behaves in real workflows, including how settings are reverted when tags are removed and how Shopify Flow can be used to automate Pre-order actions.
Removing Tag Automation From a Product
When setting up Tag Automation in Timesact, it is important to enable the Remove tag reverts settings option.
This setting determines how Timesact behaves when a Tag Automation tag is later removed from a product. If it is not enabled, removing the tag in Shopify may not undo the associated Pre-order or Back In Stock configuration.

Once this option is enabled, Tag Automation is fully controlled through Shopify product tags.
To stop Timesact features from applying to a product, remove the corresponding Tag Automation tag from the product in Shopify and save your changes. When the tag is removed, Timesact automatically reverts the product to its original state and the linked settings no longer apply.
In the next sections, we’ll show how this tag removal process can be automated using Shopify Flow.
Bulk Add or Remove Pre-orders by Tag in Shopify Using Timesact
Tag Automation makes it possible to add or remove Pre-order settings across multiple products at once, without editing each product individually.
By applying or removing a specific Shopify product tag, Timesact automatically applies or removes the linked Pre-order configuration. This is especially useful when launching a preorder for a large collection or disabling preorders in bulk.
Bulk Add Products to Pre-order by Tag
To bulk enable Pre-orders using Tag Automation:
- In Timesact, create or confirm a Tag Automation that enables Pre-order and has Remove tag reverts settings enabled.
- Copy the tag name used in the automation.
- In Shopify, go to Products.
- Select the products you want to enable for Pre-order.

- Add the Tag Automation tag to all selected products.
- Save your changes.

Once the tag is applied, Timesact automatically activates Pre-order on all tagged products using the predefined settings.
Each product should have only one Timesact Tag Automation tag. If you need different Pre-order configurations, create separate tags with different settings and switch between them as needed.
Bulk Remove Products From Pre-order by Tag
To bulk remove Pre-orders from products:
- In Shopify, go to Products.
- Filter the products that currently have the Pre-order tag applied.

- Remove the Tag Automation tag from the selected products.

- Save your changes.
When the tag is removed, Timesact automatically reverts the Pre-order settings and returns the products to their original state, provided the Remove tag reverts settings option was enabled during setup.
This approach allows you to manage Pre-orders at scale using Shopify’s native bulk editing tools, without manually adjusting settings product by product.
In the next sections, we’ll show how Shopify Flow can be used to automate adding and removing these tags based on inventory events.
Shopify Flow X Timesact: Automate Adding and Activating Pre-orders
Shopify Flow allows you to automatically apply Timesact Pre-order settings based on inventory changes, without manually adding tags to products.
By combining Shopify Flow with Timesact Tag Automation, you can automatically enable Pre-orders the moment a product variant goes out of stock.
Automating Pre-order Activation Using Shopify Flow
To create a workflow that automatically activates Pre-orders when inventory runs out:
- In Shopify, go to Flow and click Create workflow.

- Select the trigger Product variant out of stock.

- Add an action and choose Add product tags.

- Enter the Shopify product tag used in your Timesact Pre-order Tag Automation.

- Save and enable the workflow.

Once this workflow is active, Shopify Flow automatically adds the Pre-order tag to the product as soon as any variant goes out of stock. When the tag is applied, Timesact activates Pre-order using the predefined settings linked to that tag.
This automation removes the need to manually monitor inventory levels and ensures customers can continue purchasing products as preorders when stock is depleted.
In the next section, we’ll show how to fully automate the removal of Pre-orders when products are restocked using Shopify Flow.
Shopify Flow X Timesact: Completely Automating the Removal of Pre-orders on Full Restock
In addition to automatically enabling Pre-orders when inventory runs out, Shopify Flow can also be used to automatically remove Pre-order settings once all variants of a product are back in stock.
By removing the Timesact Pre-order tag through Shopify Flow, Timesact reverts the product to its original state without manual intervention.
Automating Pre-order Removal on Full Restock
To create a workflow that removes Pre-orders when a product is fully restocked:
- In Shopify, go to Flow and click Create workflow.
- Select the trigger Product variant inventory quantity changed.

- Add a condition:
- Product has out of stock variants
- Equals
- False

- Add an action and choose Remove product tags.

- Enter the Shopify product tag used in your Timesact Pre-order Tag Automation.

- Save and enable the workflow.

With this workflow in place, Shopify Flow monitors inventory changes continuously. When all variants of a product are back in stock, the Pre-order tag is automatically removed.
Because the Remove tag reverts settings option was enabled during Tag Automation setup, Timesact automatically disables Pre-order and restores the product’s original purchase behavior.
This completes a fully automated Pre-order lifecycle, where Pre-orders are enabled when inventory runs out and removed automatically when stock is replenished.
Shopify Flow X Timesact: Adding an Order Note for Pre-order Items
Shopify Flow can also be used to automatically add notes to orders that contain Pre-order items. This is useful for fulfillment, customer support, and warehouse teams that need to quickly identify Pre-order purchases.
By detecting the Pre-order tag on an order, Shopify Flow can append a clear note when the order is created.
Automatically Adding an Order Note for Pre-order Orders
To create a workflow that adds an order note when a Pre-order item is purchased:
- In Shopify, go to Flow and click Create workflow.
- Select the trigger Order created.

- Add a condition:
- Order has tags
- Equals
- Pre-order

- Add an action and choose Update order note.

- Enter a note message, for example:
“This order contains Pre-order items.”

- Save and enable the workflow.
Once enabled, Shopify Flow automatically adds the note to any order that includes Pre-order items, improving visibility during fulfillment and reducing the risk of premature shipping.
This workflow works alongside Tag Automation and inventory-based flows without affecting product or inventory behavior.
Final Notes
By combining Timesact Tag Automation with Shopify Flow, you can fully automate the Pre-order lifecycle:
- Enable Pre-orders automatically when inventory runs out
- Disable Pre-orders automatically when products are fully restocked
- Add clear internal notes to orders that contain Pre-order items
- Use Tag Automation with other Timesact features such as Back In Stock, In Stock, and Coming Soon to build advanced workflows
This approach reduces manual work, minimizes errors, and keeps Pre-order behavior consistent across your store.
